Foundation: New York’s ATMS
The Foundation III ATMS system has been successfully deployed to multiple
Regions in New York for more than 7 years. Previously, Foundation I and II have operated
as the ATMS in NYSDOT Region 10 since 1999. Currently, Foundation is being used in Region 2 (Utica),
Region 3 (Syracuse), Region 4 (Rochester), Region 8 (Hudson Valley), Region 9 (Binghamton) and
Region 10 (Long Island).
New Agency Roll-out
A new agency is rolling out Foundation for VMS, CCCTV and probe vehicle detection. Additional detail to follow.
Name Aliasing & TMC Hand-off
The feature roll-out of Name Aliasing allows the same GUI to show device and location names as known to different user groups,
for example operators and maintenance personnel. Combined with the TMC hand-off feature, this allows infrequent users
to access the system in generic, statewide-wide nomenclature in emergency situations.
Situational Awareness Data Center
CoVal begins the configuration of high-impact, actionable information, alerts in NYSDOT regions. These alerts allow dynamic,
condition-based sets of Foundation screen to be bought to the operation desktop with a single click.
Performance Measures
NYSDOT Region 10 begins to use operator activity reports as part of its performance measures effort.
Historical Data Playback
A Foundation Users Workgroup meeting demonstrated the Historical playback of data. The playback can be viewed on a map and/or text reports and
exported to a movie format. Playback controls allow synchronized viewing of VMS messages and then-current roadway conditions.
External Incident Integration
Foundation currently supports three sources of regional incident information, an additional two are in development.
